COPE calls for suite of reforms to reign in unnacountable spending

When Council reconvenes in September, COPE will be unveiling a suite of motions designed to curb the growth of unnacountable spending currently taking place at the City and to provide greater public transparency. The motions will call for changes to how funding for contracts are approved and provide for council oversight before and after services.

Mayor Robertson’s plan for West End consultation not good enough

Today, Mayor Robertson committed to delaying a public hearing on the controversial STIR residential project on Comox St in the West End, committing instead “to first identify key planning priorities, issues and community needs” through a “special advisory” process.

The Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, September 19 at 2:30pm at the Japanese Hall (487 Alexander St.), Vancouver, B.C.


Members will receive reports, vote on financials and elect a new Executive Committee.

 

COPE announces new Executive Director and 2010 AGM

COPE is pleased to announce the appointment of Alvin Singh as COPE's new Executive Director. Singh brings a wealth of experience in policy development, communications, and education advocacy, working with the NDP and other levels of government.  Singh is currently COPE's external chair person and ran for school board in 2008. He has been involved in municipal and provincial issues since he was a high school student, successfully lobbying for seismic upgrades in BC schools.

COPE calls on COV to endorse national housing program
